Conchat ("the Extension") is a browser extension that lets you chat anonymously with other visitors on the same page. No account, email, or personal information is ever required. This policy explains what data is involved when you use the Extension.
1. What Happens When You Use Conchat
Room Assignment
The Extension determines which room you belong to based on the page you are viewing. Only an irreversible hash of the URL is sent to the server — the actual URL never leaves your browser.
Chat Messages
Messages you send are relayed to other users in the same room in real time. Recent messages are retained briefly on our servers to provide context when someone joins. Older messages are automatically deleted.
Abuse Prevention
To prevent spam and abuse, the Extension generates an anonymous device identifier locally. This identifier is an irreversible hash that cannot reveal your real identity, and is used solely for rate limiting and enforcing bans. Your IP address may also be used for the same purpose.
Bot Verification
The Extension may use Cloudflare Turnstile for bot and abuse prevention. When enabled, Cloudflare may collect browser signals during this process under their own Privacy Policy.
2. What We Do NOT Collect
- Email address, real name, or any account credentials
- Browsing history or page URLs (only irreversible hashes are used)
- Cookies or cross-site tracking data
- Keystrokes or form input on web pages
- Any personally identifiable information
3. Data Retention
- Recent chat messages are retained briefly, then automatically deleted.
- Ban records are retained as long as necessary to enforce community safety.
- No other data is persisted on our servers.
4. Third-Party Services
The Extension relies on Cloudflare for infrastructure hosting and may use Cloudflare for bot verification. Cloudflare processes data under their own privacy policy linked above.
5. Your Choices
- Block sites — disable the Extension on specific sites via the built-in blocklist.
- Uninstall — removing the Extension deletes all locally stored data.
6. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13.
7. Changes to This Policy
Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
